Roy, You probably will never quit, but I remember the day we caught a mortar that killed John Beverly & filled you with an over dose of shrapnel and all I got was the concussion that knocked me down & broke my arm, so i'm indebted to you. I trust your health is good, especially since you continue to teach & practice. Are you married now? I'm nosey! Jim Power

Wish I would have found this site much earlier. He always had stories about his service, and attended reunions throughout the country.

My dad was part of the 11th Armored Division in the Pacific with the 713th Flame Thrower Tank Batallion. I am trying to put together a flag box for him, and I really would like to be able to display his unit patch and unit insignia. Is there any place I could locate either or both of those items?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I was noticing from the list that attended the reunion recently that there was a George Baur who was in the 490th AFA. My father, Frank Hass, was in the 490th as well. I was wondering if there is any way that maybe Mr. Baur knoew of my father. I have a picture of my father with two men in southern France, and I do not know who they are. My father passed away Jan. 21, 2008. If I can get in contact with Mr. Baur, please let me know.

(449) DO YOU REMEMBER CAMP BARKELEY HOSPITAL?
I am doing research on the Barkeley Station Hospital and would like to confirm the location of the Emergency entrance, X-ray department, Nurses' quarters, and Administrative entrance. Also was the large building just to the west of the hospital a movie theater?

If you can confirm or correct any of the locations in the accompanying aerial photo, please email me.

My mom recently passed and I found many pictures from my dad's WWII years, unfortunately with no names. I do recall him mentioning Ferzacca, Fio Rito, Courtney, Yaggi, Sewseizcz as they were Chicago area guys. I recall they hosted a reunion in Oak Brook, IL around the summer of 1968.

He was living in Aberdeen, Mississippi.
During the war he was in an Armored Division but we don't know what division ?

I discovered this site through my Great Uncle who found out I was interested in history, especially concerning WWII. My Step Great Grandfather, Grandpa Albert, aka Albert Foret, served in the 11th Armored Division, and though I did have the chance to meet him, I was very little and don't really remember him. I never really got the chance to talk to him about his time in the service and would love to find out more about him. If anyone can maybe offer me any stories or tidbits about him or of his travels during his time in the 11th, I would be very thankful! Thanks and God bless!

I am trying to find out if there is anyone still alive who can share any stories about my father pfc Gail Nelson Blakely-he was a member of the 575th and told very little to his wife Esther, ,or any of his seven children.

I have tried for years to find a site that has free access, I just am curious if someone could tell me anything??

Here is what we know:
he was a gunner repair man on a half track
he freed prisoners at a concentration camp
he was 18 when he entered the war

from all we hear he knew how to make danishes???

he was married for 34 years, and most of his battalion mates are from Ohio.

Thomas Camby from Ohio was one of his closest friends from the war.

he died in 1986 and he is my greatest hero because of his military service.
He had me when he was 47 years old and he would be 85 in September if he was still living.
the picture is of me, my sister, Lori Gayle, and my wife-whom he never met.

Any antedotal stories or battle stories from anyone would be greatly appreciated

I guess I am doing the same as a lot of folks I see in trying to locate anyone that may have known my Dad during the time he served with the 11th Armored Division. If so i would love to meet them. I currently working on my masters and plan on teaching history. HR 1818 is a bill To amend title 10, United States Code, to extend military commissary and exchange store privileges to veterans with a compensable service-connected disability and to their dependents. Currently it has been referred to the House Armed Services Committee, Subcommittee on Military Personnel. I urge everyone to contact their U.S. Congressional Representative to show support for this benefit for our vets. Don't let this bill die in committee.

My grandfather, Frank Logozzo, was with the 11th at the Battle of the Bulge. He passed away 2 weeks ago and now we are all kicking ourselves for not writing down any of his stories. As I struggle with this loss, I have also come to realize that his passing signifies the end of an era, not only for me but for our country. Men of his generation are a different breed aqnd I know that if the generations of today had half the pride and work ethic he had, we may not be facing such hard time now. To all of you who are left from this era, I truly thank you and appreciate all you have sacrificed. I wish I had told my grandfather that.

Mr. Harvison
My Father, Don Becker from St. Helena, NE was a member of the 55th AIB. Mt Father never talked about the war much at all and since his passing in 2006 I have been trying to piece together his time in Europe from early 44 to the end of the war. I would appreciate any information you have.

My Uncle, Walter Trought served with the 11th Armored during the Battle of the Bulge. I do not know what unit he belonged to because he never spoke of the war. If anyone knew him I would appreciate any information you could give me about his unit, what the unit did, and any stories you might remember. My Uncle died quite a few years ago and anything you could give would fill in some of the gaps.

I am currently doing some research on my grandfather, Elliott E. Lanier (Earl)Georgia, PFC, 778th Tank battallion, 11th Armored Division, Company D. I have a lot of pictures of his time during the war. I have pictures of him and friends at the 11th Batallion Recreation Hall, loading the U.S.S. Clairmont, in Czechlosvkia and Austria. I have just began my intensive research and would appreciate any help or assistance. My grandfather never felt like a hero, he always said that those men who died during the war were the real heroes, so I guess that is why he never felt like telling stories about his time in the war. I have a picture in which he wrote down some of the men's names. The men in the picture are as follows:

T4- McJay(Iowa)
Sgt. Van De Hey ? (Wis)
Sgt. Nass (Ill)?
T5 Cook (N.J.)
PFC Brewer (N.Y)
PFC Sitter(Mich)
T5 Buchs (Wis)
PFC Blackwell(ILL)
PFC Wilbur (Mass)
T4 Musitano (Pa)
T4 Timmian (Minn)
Harold Moen (Iowa)
Louis Spanish? (N.Y.)
Seraphain Fidow? (N.Y)
Feel free to contact me via email with any information on these men or my grandfather. Thanks

C. Collins,
I've been doing a lot of research on the 778th as well, specifically Company C, where my grandfather served. I recognize the name PFC Blackwell, whose first name was Charles. He earned 2 Purple Heart Medals during the war. I don't see any other names that I recognize. I know that your grandfather was in Company D and a driver. I've been contacted on my Facebook page by Elliot Jr. Email me if you wish, or stop by my page: www.facebook.com/C-Company-778th-Tank-Battalion-1021110918094135/

I am looking for information on my Father-in-law, PFC Henry Dudziec. He was from the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, New York, and served in the 11th at the Battle of the Bulge. As he was the typical soldier who kept his war experiences to himself, his daughter (my wife Allison) would love some info on this early part of his life. This past February was the 4th anniversary of his passing at age 79. Please drop a line if you can help me out....

Thanks so much,

My dad, Walter C. White was in the 11th AD, 63rd AIB, Co. C. He had a small Nazi flag in his old trunk with the following names on it:

Theo Allen Climax, GA.
Frank N. Scarpello 124 Heckel St. Bellevue WA.
Thomas W. Joyce Seattle, WA.
Wayne Aspeil Laurelville OR
Carl Conover Salem OR
Virgil Chico Hillsburn ND
Fred C. Davenport 1626 N. Harvard Hollywood, CA.
Jeff Schulke Chicago IL
I'd be interested to know if any of these gents were in the 11th AD and had any memory of this flag.

Many Thanks,

Hi - I'm looking for any information about Michael Chernansky (from Pennsylvania), who was my dad's uncle. He was in unit C21AIB and was KIA on April 3, 1945, at age 24 or 25. My dad was only 8 when his beloved Uncle Mike died and would appreciate any info anyone can share. I don't believe my family has any pictures of him, but Michael was very tall, about 6'8".

My family would be so grateful if anyone who knew our uncle would share a memory with us. Thank you!

Sgt.Murray Lefkowitz - my father was part of the 11th Armored Division.

He said little about his experiences during the war.
I know he was a Yiddush/German speaking interviewer @ Matthausen, as well as some sort of military governor at Attersee Austria at the end of the war. I would greatly appreciate learning anything anyone can offer in the way of information about him and his role in the 11th Armored Div.

I am an author of a book on a Spanish survivor of the Mauthausen death camp. In interviews, the survivor describes being assigned to a work detail outside Mauthausen when he met approaching U.S. forces, most likely the 26th Infantry and/or 11th Armored Divisions. He speaks of a deep friendship he developed with an Army official named Ramon Navarro (Novarro/Nobarro/Nabarro?), who assisted as an interpreter when the survivor was debriefed outside of the Mauthausen prior to the assault on the town and camp.

I would be very much interested in getting in touch with this soldier, if he is living. The only information I have about this officer is that he was among the U.S. forces to liberate Mauthausen, and he was Hispanic, fluent in Spanish. The survivor believed he was an officer, but this may be inaccurate.

If Ramon could be identified and located, I would be willing to reunite captive and liberator at my expense, possibly for your next reunion.

I would be extremely grateful for your help.

In reading the many messages I noticed that so many descendants were searching for info on a father or grandfather. To all of you of the 11th who remain, please record your story on tape, in a scrapbook,or some way for your descendants. I have transcribed & edited around 200 letters that I wrote home during WWII, letters that mother saved. You should do this for your children.

My uncle was part of the 11th Armored Division and was killed in action at the Battle of the Bulge. His Name was Wilbur A. Hochman PFC. I am doing my best to find information about him but it has been spotty. I think he was in the 55th armored infantry battalion and I think he died between 12/31/44 and 1/31/45. Hi. I've written before because not only was my father, Eli Warach, a member (in fact, he was president at the time of his death in 2001), but I have been writing about WW II, liberators, etc. for several years. I am now in the process of writing an article on liberators in the Houston, TX area. If anyone can point me in the right direction to interview people in this area, I'd love it. Thanks!

My dad, E. F. (Tuny) Glenn served during WW II in the 3rd Army, 11th Armored Division, 21 st Armored Battalion. He was a 2nd Lt. He is very interested in anything about WW II and his Division and Battalion in particular.
He lost his "collar brass". They were rhomboid shaped with a tank on each one - no rifles or swords. Does anyone know of a source where I can purchase these?

(371) Is there ANYWHERE I can find a "list" of the men who served with my Dad?
Jules G Musyl
11th Armored Div. Thunderbolt
55th AIB, Company A
Served 1943-1945
I see from his scrapbook that he was in Austria, Russia, England, etc.during these years. I believe he was a staff sgt, but not sure. There are also pictures from bases in Madison, WI and Salt Lake City, UT.
He was very tall, 6'4" so I'm sure he would have been memorable. Hoping to find anyone who may have known him during that time. He did not talk much about the war until he became ill in 1978.

If you find a list let me know. My grandfather Cpl Leo Guerrettaz was in the 55 AIB but I do not know which company. He was one of the tank gunners and I know they had a half-track in the unit.

My father is Joseph R. Sweeney. 11th Armored Division - B Troop. He served overseas, was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart. I went to several reunions with my parents over the years and am wondering if any of the troop still get together for their reunions. Dad passed away 5-20-1987. I was unable to obtain his military records because of the fire in 1973. They tell me that his records may have been destroyed. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who would have information about my father. We are trying to put together his military record and information. Thanks for any help or correspondence.

I'm currently writing a book about the liberators of the concentration and slave labor camps in the final weeks of the war, and would like to speak with 11th Armored Division veterans who liberated the prisoners on the death march from Berga on April 23, and who participated in the liberation of Gusen and Mauthausen on May 5 and 6. Please email me at mh@hirshmedia.us. The book will be published in hardcover by Bantam Dell Publishing. Thanks very much.
