My dad, Robert A. Vogel, was in Battery A of the 491st Armored Field Artillery Battalion. He never talked much about his experiences in the war, but reading the history of the 491st just now was very interesting. He died in 1998.

My grandfather, Frank Logozzo, was with the 11th at the Battle of the Bulge. He passed away 2 weeks ago and now we are all kicking ourselves for not writing down any of his stories. As I struggle with this loss, I have also come to realize that his passing signifies the end of an era, not only for me but for our country. Men of his generation are a different breed aqnd I know that if the generations of today had half the pride and work ethic he had, we may not be facing such hard time now. To all of you who are left from this era, I truly thank you and appreciate all you have sacrificed. I wish I had told my grandfather that.

Mr. Harvison
My Father, Don Becker from St. Helena, NE was a member of the 55th AIB. Mt Father never talked about the war much at all and since his passing in 2006 I have been trying to piece together his time in Europe from early 44 to the end of the war. I would appreciate any information you have.

My Uncle, Walter Trought served with the 11th Armored during the Battle of the Bulge. I do not know what unit he belonged to because he never spoke of the war. If anyone knew him I would appreciate any information you could give me about his unit, what the unit did, and any stories you might remember. My Uncle died quite a few years ago and anything you could give would fill in some of the gaps.

I am currently doing some research on my grandfather, Elliott E. Lanier (Earl)Georgia, PFC, 778th Tank battallion, 11th Armored Division, Company D. I have a lot of pictures of his time during the war. I have pictures of him and friends at the 11th Batallion Recreation Hall, loading the U.S.S. Clairmont, in Czechlosvkia and Austria. I have just began my intensive research and would appreciate any help or assistance. My grandfather never felt like a hero, he always said that those men who died during the war were the real heroes, so I guess that is why he never felt like telling stories about his time in the war. I have a picture in which he wrote down some of the men's names. The men in the picture are as follows:

T4- McJay(Iowa)
Sgt. Van De Hey ? (Wis)
Sgt. Nass (Ill)?
T5 Cook (N.J.)
PFC Brewer (N.Y)
PFC Sitter(Mich)
T5 Buchs (Wis)
PFC Blackwell(ILL)
PFC Wilbur (Mass)
T4 Musitano (Pa)
T4 Timmian (Minn)
Harold Moen (Iowa)
Louis Spanish? (N.Y.)
Seraphain Fidow? (N.Y)
Feel free to contact me via email with any information on these men or my grandfather. Thanks

I am looking for information on my Father-in-law, PFC Henry Dudziec. He was from the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, New York, and served in the 11th at the Battle of the Bulge. As he was the typical soldier who kept his war experiences to himself, his daughter (my wife Allison) would love some info on this early part of his life. This past February was the 4th anniversary of his passing at age 79. Please drop a line if you can help me out....

Thanks so much,
Dan

My dad, Walter C. White was in the 11th AD, 63rd AIB, Co. C. He had a small Nazi flag in his old trunk with the following names on it:

Theo Allen Climax, GA.
Frank N. Scarpello 124 Heckel St. Bellevue WA.
Thomas W. Joyce Seattle, WA.
Wayne Aspeil Laurelville OR
Carl Conover Salem OR
Virgil Chico Hillsburn ND
Fred C. Davenport 1626 N. Harvard Hollywood, CA.
Jeff Schulke Chicago IL
I'd be interested to know if any of these gents were in the 11th AD and had any memory of this flag.

Many Thanks,

Walter White, Jr.

Hi - I'm looking for any information about Michael Chernansky (from Pennsylvania), who was my dad's uncle. He was in unit C21AIB and was KIA on April 3, 1945, at age 24 or 25. My dad was only 8 when his beloved Uncle Mike died and would appreciate any info anyone can share. I don't believe my family has any pictures of him, but Michael was very tall, about 6'8".

My family would be so grateful if anyone who knew our uncle would share a memory with us. Thank you!

Dear Mr. Vine

Enclosed are the DVD's you asked about.
I am including some extras you might enjoy and want to share with friends.

I normally charge $20 each in advance but this is a Christmas gift to you. I you'd like to send money to the 11thAD Association for their general fund I would be honored that you do that rather than send me a check.

Sgt.Murray Lefkowitz - my father was part of the 11th Armored Division.

He said little about his experiences during the war.
I know he was a Yiddush/German speaking interviewer @ Matthausen, as well as some sort of military governor at Attersee Austria at the end of the war. I would greatly appreciate learning anything anyone can offer in the way of information about him and his role in the 11th Armored Div.

I am an author of a book on a Spanish survivor of the Mauthausen death camp. In interviews, the survivor describes being assigned to a work detail outside Mauthausen when he met approaching U.S. forces, most likely the 26th Infantry and/or 11th Armored Divisions. He speaks of a deep friendship he developed with an Army official named Ramon Navarro (Novarro/Nobarro/Nabarro?), who assisted as an interpreter when the survivor was debriefed outside of the Mauthausen prior to the assault on the town and camp.

I would be very much interested in getting in touch with this soldier, if he is living. The only information I have about this officer is that he was among the U.S. forces to liberate Mauthausen, and he was Hispanic, fluent in Spanish. The survivor believed he was an officer, but this may be inaccurate.

If Ramon could be identified and located, I would be willing to reunite captive and liberator at my expense, possibly for your next reunion.

I would be extremely grateful for your help.

In reading the many messages I noticed that so many descendants were searching for info on a father or grandfather. To all of you of the 11th who remain, please record your story on tape, in a scrapbook,or some way for your descendants. I have transcribed & edited around 200 letters that I wrote home during WWII, letters that mother saved. You should do this for your children.

My uncle was part of the 11th Armored Division and was killed in action at the Battle of the Bulge. His Name was Wilbur A. Hochman PFC. I am doing my best to find information about him but it has been spotty. I think he was in the 55th armored infantry battalion and I think he died between 12/31/44 and 1/31/45. He was from Chicago and had three sisters and a brother. I would appreciate any information I can get. Thanks! God Bless Our Military!

Hi. I've written before because not only was my father, Eli Warach, a member (in fact, he was president at the time of his death in 2001), but I have been writing about WW II, liberators, etc. for several years. I am now in the process of writing an article on liberators in the Houston, TX area. If anyone can point me in the right direction to interview people in this area, I'd love it. Thanks!

My dad, E. F. (Tuny) Glenn served during WW II in the 3rd Army, 11th Armored Division, 21 st Armored Battalion. He was a 2nd Lt. He is very interested in anything about WW II and his Division and Battalion in particular.
He lost his "collar brass". They were rhomboid shaped with a tank on each one - no rifles or swords. Does anyone know of a source where I can purchase these?

(371) Is there ANYWHERE I can find a "list" of the men who served with my Dad?
Jules G Musyl
11th Armored Div. Thunderbolt
55th AIB, Company A
Served 1943-1945
I see from his scrapbook that he was in Austria, Russia, England, etc.during these years. I believe he was a staff sgt, but not sure. There are also pictures from bases in Madison, WI and Salt Lake City, UT.
He was very tall, 6'4" so I'm sure he would have been memorable. Hoping to find anyone who may have known him during that time. He did not talk much about the war until he became ill in 1978.

My father is Joseph R. Sweeney. 11th Armored Division - B Troop. He served overseas, was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart. I went to several reunions with my parents over the years and am wondering if any of the troop still get together for their reunions. Dad passed away 5-20-1987. I was unable to obtain his military records because of the fire in 1973. They tell me that his records may have been destroyed. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who would have information about my father. We are trying to put together his military record and information. Thanks for any help or correspondence.

Hello,
My grandfather Leo Guerrettaz just past away this week. Before he passed he told me some stories from the war. He was a tank gunner, I have papers from where he was promoted to corporal in the 55 armored infantry battalion. I think he was promoted again but I am not sure. I have a picture of him and some others with their tank. I would like to know if he received any awards or medals during his service, he didn't like talking about the war much. I am trying to gather information on his military service to make a small memorial for him. I have been able to find a picture on here that was also in a book that he knew the men in the picture. If anyone has heard their fathers or grandfathers talk of my grandfather I would like to hear from you.

Although I apoligize for the delay I regret to anounce the passing of my father Joseph Fiteni (D 22nd Tank)in July of 2007. At a very early age dad made it clear the importance that his role in the 11th and in the battles that they faced had a profound effect on him.
He and mom always looked forward to reunions when they were able to travel! On behalf of the family thank you for keeping this part of the "greatest generation alive"

My dad was one of those great boy/men who served in Europe during WWII. He was stationed in Iceland building and maintaining airfields then went to France. He has never talked about it much until now and he is confused about dates and which units he was with. He has mentioned the 56th Engineers Company C 2nd Platoon. Also the 475th Engineers and the 17th Ground Force Replacement Center. He says he shipped out of New York on Dec 23rd 1941 and left for home in March of 1944. His name was Perry Brown. Can anyone help with more information. I would love to be able to share this with siblings and grandkids.
Thanks to all who did serve or are serving today. So far I have a son-in-law and a grandson proudly serving their country.

We were recently given many of my father-in-laws medals and shoulder sleeve insignias. I am earnestly attempting to identify and chronicle his efforts for our family. Does any one have good online info about how to identify odd medals and patches. I've been to the army recruiters and have perused many "medal sites", but I still have several that remain mystery medals/patches.

I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. I'm looking for all the information on my grandfather's military history as possible. I do know that he was a corporal in the 11th armored division 3rd army. I know he was in Patton's 3rd army throughout the whole duration of that war. I know his enlist and discharge dates but this is as far as it goes. I wish I could of gotten this information from him before he died in 2004. However like many veterans of WWII he didn't like to talk about it. Any help in this matter would greatly be appreciated. His name was Harold E. Fangmeier, he either enlisted in Mason Co. My Father was Matthew Ostrowski. He was an MP in the 11th Armored Division and was at the battle of the Bulge. I find myself looking at this website today on Feb 20, 2008. Tomorrow Feb. 21 will be the first anniversary of my Dear Dad's Death. He lived to be 95. When he was younger he didn't talk much about the War but as he got older he talked about it daily.
Dad was a great man. He was a Buffalo Policeman and retired as a Captain. I am now a Lieutenant in the Buffalo Police department. My Dad always said that it took his daughter to follow in his footsteps. My brothers chose other occupations.
I must say that my Father and also my Mother are surely members of the Greatest Generation. They grew up during the depression and were both very poor. They worked hard and were decent honorable people who taught their children to be the same and taught by example.
I know that my parents are only 2 of those people and that you genltemen are also of that generation. I would like to thank all of you for everything you have done to make this world that you have passed down to your children such a phenomenal place.
I have had the opportunity to travel to Eurpoe several times and each time I come home I realize just what a great country America is. I know that I have you men, many of whom were young boys when you fought for our counrty, to thank.
From the bottom of the heart of a daughter of a Soldier in the 11th Armored Division.......THANKYOU !

(346) I have been going through paperwork from my grandfather?s service in Bravo (B) Battery, 491st Armored Field Artillery Battalion during WWII, in the attempt to produce a booklet for my Grandmother, Mother and Sister to have as mementos, as my Grandfather passed away in 1989. I have very little information on his service (since he refused to talk openly about it, which for obvious resaons, is the case with all older veterns. His name was William "Bill" E. Coplin, and at the time of his discharged he was the rank of TEC 4. He entered into active service on 6 Nov 42, and 14 Nov 1945 was his separation date from Carson Colorado Hospital Center. I have his medals which include the Good Conduct Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, EAME Ribbon w/ 3 Bronze Service Stars, Purple Heart w/ 2 Stars and the ATCM (?). I know it?s pretty improbable, but if there are any other photos, information, or possibly someone who served with him...I would greatly appreciate any information.

My grandfather,PFC Charles F. Fletcher, who passed away before I was one, served with C 63rd AIB. It is my understanding that on Apr. 9th 1945 he was near Wiedersbach, Germany looking for his brother, Malcolm (unk which unit). He was in front of our lines and was shot and captured by German forces (possibly SS). He was eventually rescued and was sent home. Anyone who knew him or has additional information please write me. I am in the Army and look upon all vets with honor. God Bless you all.

I have the group picture from my father of Company D, 63rd Bn, Camp Barkeley, Texas circa June(?) 1943 if anyone is interested in finding a loved one in the photo, I will e-mail copy to you. I would also like to hear from anyone out there that would have any memories of my Dad. His name was C.B.Barbary from Greer, SC. He often went by the nickname "Bob" because he had only intials as his name. I know that he was in the Medical Replacement Training Center at Barkeley from about June 1943 until Overseas deployment in Sept 1944 (?). He was for sure at Southampton, England in 1944 and I believe went on to Cherbourg, France.

Hi my Grandfather served with company B of the 811th TD Batt. First and foremost God Bless Veterans! My Grandfather Raymond Oscar Hofmann. or Bill was with a 11th Armored Division. I know he trained in Fort Hood Texas. I know he was on the second wave at Omaha beach, also fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and the Seigfreid Line. He also went through St.Lo, where I believe his tank was hit when he was not in it.(Possibly his commanders life was taken here) Pictures from a book called "THINK".

Anyone having information feel free to contact me ''PLEASE'' and thanks!

My Uncle, 2nd Lt. Wilbert J. Dunn was with the 11th Armored Division, 55th Armored Infantry Bn. and was killed in action either January 13 or 15, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge. Is there anyway I can find out the Company he was assigned with, any citations he may have recieved. Any information would be appreciated. Thank You

Doug Petty Sunday, December 28, 2008 19:30
My father told me that he was assigned to Company B. That's all the information that we have. Your uncle was a genuinely fine man. The company commander, Captain George Reimer, was a close friend of Lt. Dunn.

I recently found out my grandfather, Leland A. McGrew, served in the 11th Armored. I believe he was a 2nd or 1st Lt. and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me more information about what platoon or anything else along those lines that they knew about him. Thank you all very much for what you have done!

I am looking for information on my Father-in-law, PFC Henry Dudziec. He was from Brooklyn, New York, and served in the 11th at the Battle of the Bulge. As he was the typical soldier who kept his war experiences to himself, his daughter (my wife Allison) would love some info on this early part of his life. He passed in early 2005 at the age of 79. Please drop a line if you can help me out....

Thanks so much,
Dan

My dad,Arthur Loyd Shipley was a tank driver in HQ company of the 753rd tank battalion during WWII. Dad was from Oklahoma, and the guys called him "pop" as he was 28 years old when they shipped out to North Africa and most of the guys were 19 or 20. Dad died in a tractor accident back in 1980. I am trying to either locate someone who might have known him in service or maybe someone from the 753rd who authored a book about their service. Any information would be appreciated. Please email anything you would consider of interest. Thanks for your time. Curtis Shipley

I was wondering if anyone here can help me with some research. I write children?s books, and I am beginning a historical fiction book on the liberators and survivors of Mathausen. My premise is an American soldier befriending a young man from the camp after liberation. Of course, it is fictional, but I need some background to write this. I will be interviewing people, but I was hoping someone here could suggest specific sites to go to or specific people to interview. I?m mainly looking to see what the protocol after the war was. Where did the survivors go? Was there anything done for the young ones?
I grew up hearing stories of the Eleventh Armored Division from my father, Eli Warach of the 42nd Tank Battalion; Company D. He happened to be president of your group at the time of his death in 2001. I still have copies of the beautiful tributes many of you had written. I have written essays having to do with the Battle of the Bulge and the subsequent liberation of Mathausen based on his and others? remarks, but since I mainly write for children, I am now working on this upper elementary picture book.
Any suggestions to help with research would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My father, Marcel E. (Frenchy) Gagnon served with the 11th Armored Division. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He passed away at age 89 on December 12, 2007. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers my Dad. He spoke little about his experiences and I especially would love to know any stories that anyone has.
