My uncle, Alan Pifer, was a 2nd Lt. and Transportation Officer in the Service Company of the 22nd Tank Battalion in the 11th. 15 years ago he wrote a 50-page essay of his experiences in the 11th, from California to Austria. He is still alive, living in Vermont, and I happened to see him 2 days ago, and he gave me permission to pass on his story to any person or organization that might be interested in it. It is very well written, and really gives a graphic sense of what it was like to be in the lower echelons where you have no idea what's happening anywhere else. Is there any part of this website where such documents can be made available?

Also, if anyone reading this was in his Service Company and remembers him, I would be happy to put you in touch, just send me an email. Also, if anyone reading this wants a copy of his essay, let me know. I only have a hard copy, but intend to find some way to scan it into my computer soon.
