I've written before because not only was my father, Eli Warach, a member (in fact, he was president at the time of his death in 2001), but I have been writing about WW II, liberators, etc. for several years. My dad, E. F. (Tuny) Glenn served during WW II in the 3rd Army, 11th Armored Division, 21 st Armored Battalion. He was a 2nd Lt. He is very interested in anything about WW II and his Division and Battalion in particular.
He lost his "collar brass". They were rhomboid shaped with a tank on each one - no rifles or swords. Does anyone know of a source where I can purchase these?

Metro MORROCH was in Co B / 55 AIB/ 11th ARMD. He was KIA in Belgium, on Dec.31, 1944 during the advance through the Bois des Haies de Magery towards Acul-Pinsamont, coming from Magerotte.
His former canteen was found.

I see from his scrapbook that he was in Austria, Russia, England, etc.during these years. I believe he was a staff sgt, but not sure. There are also pictures from bases in Madison, WI and Salt Lake City, UT.
He was very tall, 6'4" so I'm sure he would have been memorable. Hoping to find anyone who may have known him during that time. He did not talk much about the war until he became ill in 1978.

My Grandfather's Name was Joseph Sweeney 11th AD, B Troop of the 41st Cavalry Squadron. Records of him seem to be quite hard to find. If there is anyone out there that has any idea as to where I can find more info, or that may have known him, please contact me. Thanks!

My father is Joseph R. Sweeney. 11th Armored Division - B Troop. He served overseas, was wounded in action and received a Purple Heart. I went to several reunions with my parents over the years and am wondering if any of the troop still get together for their reunions. Dad passed away 5-20-1987. I was unable to obtain his military records because of the fire in 1973. They tell me that his records may have been destroyed. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who would have information about my father. We are trying to put together his military record and information. Thanks for any help or correspondence.

My grandfather Leo Guerrettaz just past away this week. Before he passed he told me some stories from the war. He was a tank gunner, I have papers from where he was promoted to corporal in the 55 armored infantry battalion. I think he was promoted again but I am not sure. I have a picture of him and some others with their tank. I would like to know if he received any awards or medals during his service, he didn't like talking about the war much. I am trying to gather information on his military service to make a small memorial for him. I have been able to find a picture on here that was also in a book that he knew the men in the picture. If anyone has heard their fathers or grandfathers talk of my grandfather I would like to hear from you.

My father, Sgt. Ralph Edwin Snowberger, past away Aug. 2006. Before he died, he told me of a son he had in 1948,named Joseph Edwin Snowberger. My father Peter Larnish of Aliquippa/Ambridge, Pennsylvania passed away this past Memorial Day May 26,2008 at the age of 85.
He was a Tec 5 Combat Medical Technician in Combat Command A-81st Armored Medical Batallion....and was wounded on January 14, 1945 at the Battle of the Bulge in which he was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was member of the American Legion-Post 641 for 57yrs.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Although I apoligize for the delay I regret to anounce the passing of my father Joseph Fiteni (D 22nd Tank)in July of 2007. At a very early age dad made it clear the importance that his role in the 11th and in the battles that they faced had a profound effect on him.
He and mom always looked forward to reunions when they were able to travel! On behalf of the family thank you for keeping this part of the "greatest generation alive"

My dad was one of those great boy/men who served in Europe during WWII. He was stationed in Iceland building and maintaining airfields then went to France. He has never talked about it much until now and he is confused about dates and which units he was with. He has mentioned the 56th Engineers Company C 2nd Platoon. Also the 475th Engineers and the 17th Ground Force Replacement Center. He says he shipped out of New York on Dec 23rd 1941 and left for home in March of 1944. His name was Perry Brown. Can anyone help with more information. I would love to be able to share this with siblings and grandkids.

I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. I'm looking for all the information on my grandfather's military history as possible. I do know that he was a corporal in the 11th armored division 3rd army. I know he was in Patton's 3rd army throughout the whole duration of that war. I know his enlist and discharge dates but this is as far as it goes. I wish I could of gotten this information from him before he died in 2004. My grandfather was Dominic Capparelli. He was a Sgt and served as a communications chief in the 11th Armored Division. He receieved the European Theatre of Operations Medal and was awarded the Purple Heart. Any other information anyone has on him would be great.

My Father was Matthew Ostrowski. He was an MP in the 11th Armored Division and was at the battle of the Bulge. I find myself looking at this website today on Feb 20, 2008. Tomorrow Feb. 21 will be the first anniversary of my Dear Dad's Death. He lived to be 95. When he was younger he didn't talk much about the War but as he got older he talked about it daily.
Dad was a great man. He was a Buffalo Policeman and retired as a Captain. I am now a Lieutenant in the Buffalo Police department.My Dad always said that it took his daughter to follow in his footsteps. My brothers chose other occupations.
I must say that my Father and also my Mother are surely members of the Greatest Generation. They grew up during the depression and were both very poor. They worked hard and were decent honorable people who taught their children to be the same and taught by example.
I know that my parents are only 2 of those people and that you genltemen are also of that generation. I would like to thank all of you for everything you have done to make this world that you have passed down to your children such a phenomenal place.

Looking for information on the 490thAFA, Battery C

I have been going through paperwork from my grandfather?s service in Bravo (B) Battery, 491st Armored Field Artillery Battalion during WWII, in the attempt to produce a booklet for my Grandmother, Mother and Sister to have as mementos, as my Grandfather passed away in 1989. I have very little information on his service (since he refused to talk openly about it, which for obvious resaons, is the case with all older veterns. His name was William "Bill" E. Coplin, and at the time of his discharged he was the rank of TEC 4. He entered into active service on 6 Nov 42, and 14 Nov 1945 was his separation date from Carson Colorado Hospital Center. I have his medals which include the Good Conduct Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, EAME Ribbon w/ 3 Bronze Service Stars, Purple Heart w/ 2 Stars and the ATCM (?). I know it?s pretty improbable, but if there are any other photos,information, or possibly someone who served with him...I would greatly appreciate any information.

My grandfather,PFC Charles F. Fletcher, who passed away before I was one, served with C 63rd AIB. It is my understanding that on Apr. 9th 1945 he was near Wiedersbach, Germany looking for his brother, Malcolm (unk which unit). He was in front of our lines and was shot and captured by German forces (possibly SS). He was eventually rescued and was sent home. Anyone who knew him or has additional information please write me. My dad trained at Camp Santa Anita and Camp Cooke in 1943 and early 1944, before going to England and then to Utah Beach on June 9th, 1944.

I have the group picture from my father of Company D, 63rd Bn, Camp Barkeley, Texas circa June(?) 1943 if anyone is interested in finding a loved one in the photo, I will e-mail copy to you. I would also like to hear from anyone out there that would have any memories of my Dad. His name was C.B.Barbary from Greer, SC. He often went by the nickname "Bob" because he had only intials as his name. I know that he was in the Medical Replacement Training Center at Barkeley from about June 1943 until Overseas deployment in Sept 1944 (?). He was for sure at Southampton, England in 1944 and I believe went on to Cherbourg, France.

I know he trained in Fort Hood Texas. I know he was on the second wave at Omaha beach, also fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and the Seigfreid Line. My dad,Arthur Loyd Shipley was a tank driver in HQ company of the 753rd tank battalion during WWII. Dad was from Oklahoma, and the guys called him "pop" as he was 28 years old when they shipped out to North Africa and most of the guys were 19 or 20. Dad died in a tractor accident back in 1980. I am trying to either locate someone who might have known him in service or maybe someone from the 753rd who authored a book about their service. Any information would be appreciated. I was wondering if anyone here can help me with some research. I write children?s books, and I am beginning a historical fiction book on the liberators and survivors of Mathausen. My premise is an American soldier befriending a young man from the camp after liberation. Of course, it is fictional, but I need some background to write this. I will be interviewing people, but I was hoping someone here could suggest specific sites to go to or specific people to interview. I?m mainly looking to see what the protocol after the war was. Where did the survivors go? Was there anything done for the young ones?
I grew up hearing stories of the Eleventh Armored Division from my father, Eli Warach of the 42nd Tank Battalion; Company D. My father, Marcel E. (Frenchy) Gagnon served with the 11th Armored Division. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He passed away at age 89 on December 12, 2007. My father was rescued as a forced labourer nearby MAINLEUS in Germany when he and his comrades where forced to walk to the Czhech border. I wonder if any of you soldiers who were in combat in that area can still recall of this event. Any information is wellcome

I happened to read Wm. Fee's diary about his experiences through Europe during WWII, and saw mention of my father, ANGELO MAGELLI- at least, I assume it was my father. I know he was in the 11th AD, and I don't think there were too many Angelo Magelli's. In the diary, he has the nickname "Doc", which I had never heard before. My mother says he was a medic, but, how did he then end up as 1st. Sgt. of an infantry company? Unfortunately, the diary ends before the date when my father was wounded and finished with the war. Does anyone know how to contact Mr. Fee or have any additional information about my Dad so I might fill in some blanks about his life? My dad died several years ago, so I can get no stories from him.

I just read the account of when my uncle participated in the Battle of the Bulge with C company 11th armoured. His name is Cpl. Raymond Imholt.

I'm looking for information about my grandfather's time in Company A of the 56th Armored Infantry Div. Rhineland and Central Europe. At Fame Theatre he was wounded. And he told a story of using wench trucks to lift all equipment and vehicles out of a dead end canyon. He was a Auto Mechanic 014 combat infantryman and we know he entered the service in Tulsa, OK in 1942. His name was P.J. Robinson.

I am an author of a book on a Spanish survivor of the Mauthausen death camp. In interviews, the survivor describes being assigned to a work detail outside Mauthausen when he met approaching U.S. forces, most likely the 26th Infantry and/or 11th Armored Divisions. He speaks at length about a deep friendship he developed with an Army official named Ramon Navarro (Novarro/Nobarro/Nabarro?), who assisted as an interpreter when the survivor was debriefed outside of the Mauthausen prior to the assault on the town and camp.

I would be very much interested in getting in touch with this soldier, if he is living. The only information I have about this officer is that he was among the U.S. forces to liberate Mauthausen, and was Hispanic, fluent in Spanish. The survivor believed he was adorned with 4 stripes, but this may be inaccurate.

If Ramon could be identified and located, I would be willing to fly the survivor up from Bolivia at my own expense to reunite captive and liberator, possibly for your next reunion.

I would be extremely grateful for your help.

My dad, Walter White from Boston, Mass. served in C Co., 63rd AIB, 11th AD from Fall 1944 to VE Day. Prior to that he was with the AAF in England driving trucks and loading planes. Would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who served with him. He passed away in 1968 so we know little of his war experience, other than what we have gleaned from letters he wrote home to our Grandmother from. I'm at wcw188@aol.com. My late father, Marvin Krumholz of Newark, NJ, was in the 11th Armored Division. I just watched the Ken Burns' documentary "The War" and heard the remarks of former division member Burnett Miller of Sacramento. Many of the recollections of Mr. Miller were familiar as my father used to tell me and my brothers about his time in the Army and The Battle of the Bulge. My father Clarence Deutsch fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He recently passed away. I wish we would have known about this website before. Over the years he told good and bad stories of the times in war. I think, but am not sure, that he was in the 41st Calvary Recon. He was very close to his grandchildren and we would like as much information as possible about anyone who knew him during the war. I was substitute teaching in a 3rd grade class and they were reading the book "The Flag with Fifty-Six Stars" and I was blessed to hear the 11th Armored Division. The book is incredible. I cried as we finished reading it. Any information would be great!!

My father Claude Tharpe was in the 753rd Tank Battalion Co.B in WWII. He met James C. White of the 11th Tank Battalion Co.B before or during WWII. I an trying to find out if James C. I am the sixty year old nephew of Adolph Jastrzemski. Adolph was a gunner on a Hellcat Tank Destroyer. He fought in Bastogne, as well as other places in Europe. He received his training at Camp Hood, Texas. He is 82 years old and belonged to the 705 Tank destroyer batallion. I am currently in the process of conserving the letters that my grandfather, Anthony J. Curcio, from Brooklyn, NY, wrote my grandmother and great-grandmother from 1943-1946. My Grandfather Proudly served with the 11th Armored Div. in WWII his name was James Brooks Warren if anyone knew of him I'd love to hear from you becuase I heard stories of how great a solider he was but he was also a Great man just like all WWII Vets God Bless You All!

My Dad, Bob Kinsley, of Belleville, NJ, served in the 11th Armor, 42nd Tank Division, Company B, during WWII.

I would love to have more pictures. Sadly, a lot of his WWII books that he gave me were ruined in storage. I remember looking at them all the time when I was young. Any photos would be greatly appreciated. I saw his picture posted with Leo Zamparelli on your members photos section of your website.

Dad was very proud of the division that he served in and so are we! Dad passed away on August 22, 1995 after a long illness.

I would love to hear from other people or their families that served with my Dad. My Mom, Charlotte Kinsley, is still alive and lives out here in Arkansas by me. Thanks. I will be looking for emails!

My father,Cloral Lovell,served during WWII and was captured by the Germans was in captivity short period of time,thankfully He is now unable to tend reunions due to health Lost his wife and my mom, Letha,4 years ago.
Dad Lovell turned 85yrs old this past May and gets around pretty well and now resides in retirement center in Carrollton,Texas....Just wanted to post this information for all who remember Cloral. I am his oldest daughter and have been active in the American Legion organizations.

My father drove ambulance for the 480th Motor Ambulance Company. I just thought I would let anyone interested know that the surviving members hold their annual reunion in Kentucky. Last years was held in Paducah, KY. This year's reunion will be held at Kenlake State Resort Park in Kentucky (Land Between the Lakes). These reunions are held over the Labor Day weekend every year.

I am trying to find any information on my father his name was Paul Benjamin Davis. We did not know that he even fought in WW II until I found a box of pictures last year.

Hello, I am looking for anybody who might remember my greatuncle Thomas P.Crider,(Palmer) to our family.He served with B company 21st AIB and was wounded on March 7 '45 and died March 8 '45. He was from Dorchester,VA. I would greatly appreciate any contacts.

I am looking for anyone who might have known my Great-Uncle Hoy Lee Smith. He was with the 705th Tank Destroyer Battalion, A Company and was killed on 4 Sept 1944 in France. My dear uncle Joe Osowski pass away on May 27, 2007. He was in the 11th armor Div. in WWII and talk about his friends.I am trying find someone who knew him he and my father were my HEROS and now they are gone but his stories about his time in the 11th will live on in my heart. I would like to thank all of his old friend for you were in his thought at the end.

My father passed away in 1982 and never was detailed about his time in WWII. What I do remember is that he served as a tank driver in Europe and talked about the liberation of France. There are no records to search through so I do not know his company, etc. If anyone has any memory of him I would love to hear what you have. His name was Stanley Blanco and he was Filipino.

My grandfather, Vincent K. Cutshall, passed away on March 14, 2007. I would love to hear from anyone who knew him. He served with the 11th Armored Division, 491st AFA, Battery C. On December 30th, 1944, he was injured by a shell fragment and later received the purple heart. He recovered in England before rejoining the 491st. One of the things I found after his death were his letters home during the war. My grandpa rarely spoke of the War and the letters have given me a fascinating insight into this part of his life. If anyone remembers him, I would love to hear from you. Thank you.

I made my first entry in your guestbook on June 5th, 2005 (#146) to thank you for some photos I used to illustrate the end of WW II in a local exhibition.
Up to the present day, this entry has lead to a very personal contact with two former G.I.s, one of them being a veteran of 11th AD. Mr. Kenneth Reuss of 492nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion had been in this area on his battlefield tour in May 2005, had drawn the sharp conclusion that my home town Sinzig was situated between Bad Breisig (whre they had slept in a hotel) and Remagen (where they had visited the remainders of Ludendorff Bridge). He wrote me an email, and this turned into a very delightful and personal contact by email and sometimes by phone which lasted for almost two years.
I am very sad that my friend Kenneth Reuss passed away on Sunday, April 29th, 2007.
Since I don't have personal contact to any living person of 11th AD by now, I am proud to offer my advice and help as a local resident to any member of your division - as far as information about the Rhineland, Rhineland-Palatinate or Germany is required.
My last gift to Ken Reuss was an assembly of photos, the first half of them taken in March 1945 when 11th AD reached the town of Andernach where I work. I spotted the places and took photos of the same scenes 62 years later, in March 2007. These photos are available to anyone interested. Please email me.

I would like to know if any veteran of the 63rd AIB remembers my father Seymour Spears. I know that he served on a halftrack and was wounded during the final stages of the Battle of the Ardennes, in Belgium. And he was honorably discharged as a private. Sy did not speak too much of his experiences, and as he passed away 12 June 2006, his stories went with him. I am a history buff of this period and am very proud of him and what every GI did in WWII. I would appreciate any information anyone has. Thank you

I visiting this site for more information about someone who's grave I adopted in the Netherlands (Capt. Chester Doyle Wilkins from the 41st Tank Battalion) and found his daughter under nr: 254 in this guestbook. I got cold when I saw here name. I found also a lot of information about where and how Capt. Wilkins died. For our freedom he payes the highest price. I will never forget.

My father was Leslie Y. Stanley who passed away on July 31, 1998. He often talked about his experiences in Europe as a part of the 11th Armored Division, but he was not very detailed. I have a question with regard to my grandfathers medals and ribbons. He served as a bow gunner in Co B, 42nd tank battalion, 11th AD. His European Campaign ribbon has 3 bronze stars mounted on it - is there any way for me to find out what they represent? Thanks

I can?t thank the men and women of WWII Enough. Ever since I attended the National WWII Memorial dedication in 2004, and met so many WWII veterans, I have been collecting stories from WWII veterans. During this time I have also made a video in honor of all who served during WWII. The video showcases different WWII Museums and Memorials and is set to some big band and WWII era songs. The hopes of this video are not only to thank each of you, but to also present a couple of places you may not have had the chance to visit yet, while listening to some wonderful music. This video is FREE, you pay nothing, however I would appreciate any written stories or copied pictures anyone would like to share. I was wondering if anyone who served in C Battery 492nd Armored Field Artillery remembers my father Isadore(Izzy) Lastoff. He passed away in 1981 at the age of 72. I would appreciate hearing from you.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone had a group photo of the the guys from 42nd Tank Battalion, C Company. My great uncle John Rumage was a private with them. I read another guy's request for a similar photo of another company in a previous comment. Thanks again! I only have one photo of him since he was KIA on Jan. 1, 1945.

Hello, does anyone have a group photo of all the men that served in Company B, 42nd Tank Battalion? My grandfather was a tanker in this battalion and I don't have very many pics of him from his time in the war. His name was Robert V Burns from Somerville, Massachusetts.
