492nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion

Shield: Gules, three broad arrows or, one over two, all points to chief.

Crest: None.

Motto: None.

Description: The red is for the Field Artillery. The three gold broad-arrows are an ancient weapon of war thrown from a machine and represent an heraldic symbol of the modern function of the Artillery. The arrows further indicate the three campaigns of World War II in which the unit was a participant: Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe. The arrangement alludes to the triangle identification used on armored division vehicles and to the shoulder sleeve insignia of armor divisions.
