Looking for information on: 559th HM ORD.
My dad trained at Camp Santa Anita and Camp Cooke in 1943 and early 1944, before going to England and then to Utah Beach on June 9th, 1944.

I have the group picture from my father of Company D, 63rd Bn, Camp Barkeley, Texas circa June(?) 1943 if anyone is interested in finding a loved one in the photo, I will e-mail copy to you. I would also like to hear from anyone out there that would have any memories of my Dad. His name was C.B.Barbary from Greer, SC. He often went by the nickname "Bob" because he had only intials as his name. I know that he was in the Medical Replacement Training Center at Barkeley from about June 1943 until Overseas deployment in Sept 1944 (?). He was for sure at Southampton, England in 1944 and I believe went on to Cherbourg, France.

Hi my Grandfather served with company B of the 811th TD Batt. First and foremost God Bless Veterans! My Grandfather Raymond Oscar Hofmann. or Bill was with a 11th Armored Division. I know he trained in Fort Hood Texas. I know he was on the second wave at Omaha beach, also fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and the Seigfreid Line. He also went through St.Lo, where I believe his tank was hit when he was not in it.(Possibly his commanders life was taken here) Pictures from a book called "THINK".

My Uncle, 2nd Lt. Wilbert J. Dunn was with the 11th Armored Division, 55th Armored Infantry Bn. and was killed in action either January 13 or 15, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge. I recently found out my grandfather, Leland A. McGrew, served in the 11th Armored. I believe he was a 2nd or 1st Lt. and I was just wondering if anyone could tell me more information about what platoon or anything else along those lines that they knew about him. My dad,Arthur Loyd Shipley was a tank driver in HQ company of the 753rd tank battalion during WWII. Dad was from Oklahoma, and the guys called him "pop" as he was 28 years old when they shipped out to North Africa and most of the guys were 19 or 20. Dad died in a tractor accident back in 1980. I am trying to either locate someone who might have known him in service or maybe someone from the 753rd who authored a book about their service. Any information would be appreciated. I was wondering if anyone here can help me with some research. I write children?s books, and I am beginning a historical fiction book on the liberators and survivors of Mathausen. My premise is an American soldier befriending a young man from the camp after liberation. Of course, it is fictional, but I need some background to write this. I will be interviewing people, but I was hoping someone here could suggest specific sites to go to or specific people to interview. I?m mainly looking to see what the protocol after the war was. Where did the survivors go? Was there anything done for the young ones?
I grew up hearing stories of the Eleventh Armored Division from my father, Eli Warach of the 42nd Tank Battalion; Company D. He happened to be president of your group at the time of his death in 2001. I still have copies of the beautiful tributes many of you had written. I have written essays having to do with the Battle of the Bulge and the subsequent liberation of Mathausen based on his and others? remarks, but since I mainly write for children, I am now working on this upper elementary picture book.
Any suggestions to help with research would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My father, Marcel E. (Frenchy) Gagnon served with the 11th Armored Division. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He passed away at age 89 on December 12, 2007. My father was rescued as a forced labourer nearby MAINLEUS in Germany when he and his comrades where forced to walk to the Czhech border. I wonder if any of you soldiers who were in combat in that area can still recall of this event. Any information is wellcome

To anyone in the 11th AD/CCR/55th AIB/Co. A-

I happened to read Wm. Fee's diary about his experiences through Europe during WWII, and saw mention of my father, ANGELO MAGELLI- at least, I assume it was my father. I know he was in the 11th AD, and I don't think there were too many Angelo Magelli's. In the diary, he has the nickname "Doc", which I had never heard before. My mother says he was a medic, but, how did he then end up as 1st. Sgt. of an infantry company? Unfortunately, the diary ends before the date when my father was wounded and finished with the war. Does anyone know how to contact Mr. Fee or have any additional information about my Dad so I might fill in some blanks about his life? My dad died several years ago, so I can get no stories from him.

I just read the account of when my uncle participated in the Battle of the Bulge with C company 11th armoured. His name is Cpl. Raymond Imholt.

I'm looking for information about my grandfather's time in Company A of the 56th Armored Infantry Div. Rhineland and Central Europe. At Fame Theatre he was wounded. And he told a story of using wench trucks to lift all equipment and vehicles out of a dead end canyon. He was a Auto Mechanic 014 combat infantryman and we know he entered the service in Tulsa, OK in 1942. His name was P.J. Robinson.

I am an author of a book on a Spanish survivor of the Mauthausen death camp. In interviews, the survivor describes being assigned to a work detail outside Mauthausen when he met approaching U.S. forces, most likely the 26th Infantry and/or 11th Armored Divisions. He speaks at length about a deep friendship he developed with an Army official named Ramon Navarro (Novarro/Nobarro/Nabarro?), who assisted as an interpreter when the survivor was debriefed outside of the Mauthausen prior to the assault on the town and camp.

I would be very much interested in getting in touch with this soldier, if he is living. The only information I have about this officer is that he was among the U.S. forces to liberate Mauthausen, and was Hispanic, fluent in Spanish. The survivor believed he was adorned with 4 stripes, but this may be inaccurate.

If Ramon could be identified and located, I would be willing to fly the survivor up from Bolivia at my own expense to reunite captive and liberator, possibly for your next reunion.

He was a SGT and received a purple heart. He never said much about his service time. Would like to have information on how to find service details and/or if photos exist. My dad, Walter White from Boston, Mass. served in C Co., 63rd AIB, 11th AD from Fall 1944 to VE Day. Prior to that he was with the AAF in England driving trucks and loading planes. Would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who served with him. My late father, Marvin Krumholz of Newark, NJ, was in the 11th Armored Division. I just watched the Ken Burns' documentary "The War" and heard the remarks of former division member Burnett Miller of Sacramento. Many of the recollections of Mr. Miller were familiar as my father used to tell me and my brothers about his time in the Army and The Battle of the Bulge. My father Clarence Deutsch fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He recently passed away. I wish we would have known about this website before. Over the years he told good and bad stories of the times in war. I think, but am not sure, that he was in the 41st Calvary Recon. He was very close to his grandchildren and we would like as much information as possible about anyone who knew him during the war. I was substitute teaching in a 3rd grade class and they were reading the book "The Flag with Fifty-Six Stars" and I was blessed to hear the 11th Armored Division. The book is incredible. I cried as we finished reading it. Any information would be great!!

My father Claude Tharpe was in the 753rd Tank Battalion Co.B in WWII. He met James C. White of the 11th Tank Battalion Co.B before or during WWII. I an trying to find out if James C. White is still alive. My father has Alzimers and can't tell me about his photos from that time. He never did talk much about the war at all. I am the sixty year old nephew of Adolph Jastrzemski. Adolph was a gunner on a Hellcat Tank Destroyer. He fought in Bastogne, as well as other places in Europe. He received his training at Camp Hood, Texas. He is 82 years old and belonged to the 705 Tank destroyer batallion. I am currently in the process of conserving the letters that my grandfather, Anthony J. Curcio, from Brooklyn, NY, wrote my grandmother and great-grandmother from 1943-1946. Dad was very proud of the division that he served in and so are we! Dad passed away on August 22, 1995 after a long illness.

My father,Cloral Lovell,served during WWII and was captured by the Germans was in captivity short period of time,thankfully He is now unable to tend reunions due to health Lost his wife and my mom, Letha,4 years ago.
Dad Lovell turned 85yrs old this past May and gets around pretty well and now resides in retirement center in Carrollton,Texas....Just wanted to post this information for all who remember Cloral. I am his oldest daughter and have been active in the American Legion organizations.

My father drove ambulance for the 480th Motor Ambulance Company. I just thought I would let anyone interested know that the surviving members hold their annual reunion in Kentucky. Last years was held in Paducah, KY. This year's reunion will be held at Kenlake State Resort Park in Kentucky (Land Between the Lakes). These reunions are held over the Labor Day weekend every year.

My dear uncle Joe Osowski pass away on May 27, 2007. He was in the 11th armor Div. in WWII and talk about his friends.I am trying find someone who knew him he and my father were my HEROS and now they are gone but his stories about his time in the 11th will live on in my heart. I would like to thank all of his old friend for you were in his thought at the end.

My father passed away in 1982 and never was detailed about his time in WWII. What I do remember is that he served as a tank driver in Europe and talked about the liberation of France. There are no records to search through so I do not know his company, etc. If anyone has any memory of him I would love to hear what you have. His name was Stanley Blanco and he was Filipino.

My grandfather, Vincent K. Cutshall, passed away on March 14, 2007. I would love to hear from anyone who knew him. He served with the 11th Armored Division, 491st AFA, Battery C. On December 30th, 1944, he was injured by a shell fragment and later received the purple heart. He recovered in England before rejoining the 491st. One of the things I found after his death were his letters home during the war. My grandpa rarely spoke of the War and the letters have given me a fascinating insight into this part of his life. If anyone remembers him, I would love to hear from you. Thank you.

I made my first entry in your guestbook on June 5th, 2005 (#146) to thank you for some photos I used to illustrate the end of WW II in a local exhibition.
Up to the present day, this entry has lead to a very personal contact with two former G.I.s, one of them being a veteran of 11th AD. Mr. Kenneth Reuss of 492nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion had been in this area on his battlefield tour in May 2005, had drawn the sharp conclusion that my home town Sinzig was situated between Bad Breisig (whre they had slept in a hotel) and Remagen (where they had visited the remainders of Ludendorff Bridge). He wrote me an email, and this turned into a very delightful and personal contact by email and sometimes by phone which lasted for almost two years.
I am very sad that my friend Kenneth Reuss passed away on Sunday, April 29th, 2007.
Since I don't have personal contact to any living person of 11th AD by now, I am proud to offer my advice and help as a local resident to any member of your division - as far as information about the Rhineland, Rhineland-Palatinate or Germany is required.
My last gift to Ken Reuss was an assembly of photos, the first half of them taken in March 1945 when 11th AD reached the town of Andernach where I work. I spotted the places and took photos of the same scenes 62 years later, in March 2007. These photos are available to anyone interested. Please email me.

I would like to know if any veteran of the 63rd AIB remembers my father Seymour Spears. I know that he served on a halftrack and was wounded during the final stages of the Battle of the Ardennes, in Belgium. And he was honorably discharged as a private. Sy did not speak too much of his experiences, and as he passed away 12 June 2006, his stories went with him. I am a history buff of this period and am very proud of him and what every GI did in WWII. I would appreciate any information anyone has. Thank you

I visiting this site for more information about someone who's grave I adopted in the Netherlands (Capt. Chester Doyle Wilkins from the 41st Tank Battalion) and found his daughter under nr: 254 in this guestbook. I got cold when I saw here name. I found also a lot of information about where and how Capt. Wilkins died. For our freedom he payes the highest price. I will never forget.

My father was Leslie Y. Stanley who passed away on July 31, 1998. He often talked about his experiences in Europe as a part of the 11th Armored Division, but he was not very detailed. I can?t thank the men and women of WWII Enough. Ever since I attended the National WWII Memorial dedication in 2004, and met so many WWII veterans, I have been collecting stories from WWII veterans. During this time I have also made a video in honor of all who served during WWII. The video showcases different WWII Museums and Memorials and is set to some big band and WWII era songs. The hopes of this video are not only to thank each of you, but to also present a couple of places you may not have had the chance to visit yet, while listening to some wonderful music. My father, Sergeant Raymond Lieberman, of the 56th Armored Engineers passed away today March 3, 2007. He only recently began talking about a few of his combat experiences but he was also very proud to have served with the brave men of the 11th Armored Thunderbolts.

My brother, Paul L. Vandeford, served in Battery A, 399 AFA Bn. 11th Armored Thunderbolt Division, Third Army. Battles of Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

My father, Ivan Thornton Mundy, was a Chief Pharmacist Mate (Navy medic) who accompanied troops on the U.S.S.Hermitage in 1944--My Mother and I were living in NYC during that time, and would anxiously await his return from (Bristol, Liverpool,
Southhampton?) every few weeks. Apparently this was when the Hermitage was based at Staten Island.

Would be interested in communicating with anyone who might have known him. He served nobly in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres in WWII. He died in 1983.

Hello veterans and families of 11 Armored. I am a budding author, and am writing a book on German service rifles, and about the capture of several WW2 German arms factories by the US Army, namely the Gustloff Werke and Steyr factories in Austria. I know that elements of 11 Armored captured the Gustloff Werke factory, and have read with interest some accounts on this website. My father was Robert Benjamin McNaughton and my Uncle was Ed McNaughton. My uncle died after a plane he was in was shot down over the pacific. My father survived WW11 and Korea. He was a sargent in the army and was rewarded with 3 purple hearts and 2 bronze stars. My uncle was given a silver star posthumisly. Did anyone know either of them?

My father was Ssgt Warren Foster, Co D, 41st Tank Battalion. He died on Dec. 7, 1971, when I was 12. Our family knew of his service, his purple heart & bronze star, and a bit of what he saw, but he never spoke of it. He had a scrapbook with pictures that I wasn't allowed to look at until after his death. It took a friend who found this website for me to learn the story of the 41st TB. I know now that those gruesome photos were of a forced labor camp, the route that he followed, and what he encountered. You have provided such a service to myself and my family, I thank you. I want to personally wish every member of the 11th Armored Division a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...many of you who fought gallantly for my freedom are passing the torch to newer generations of Americans. However, lest we forget the price you paid in the winter of 1945, it will never be surpassed in the annals of history. My Dad was one of you...I will never forget what he did for me...(SSgt. WW II: On the Battle Route from Belgium to Linz/Austria the 11th Armored Division reached on the way from Cham, Regen to Waldkirchen the area of TITTLING at the last days of april 1945.
Tittling ist a small market town between Passau and Grafenau. Nearby other villages and towns are Freyung, Hutthurm and Waldkirchen.
After the last combats US-forces were based in Tittling too. In Tittling was a camp for german P.O.W..
The commune of Tittling is looking for US-photos of this time for the municipal archive. Who can help us?

I am searching for William P. Butler (ASN 35449427), member of Co. B, 21 st Arm. Bn.. He was at the Battle of the Bulge. Probably he was seriously wounded as his place of separation was Thayer General Hospital (Nashville, Tennessee). He enlisted in 1942 in Huntington, West Virginia.
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who can provide details on him/his next of kin.

I was just writing because my grandfather says he doesn't remember why he got a bronze star. On the certificate it says 5 January 1945 awarded for an act of merit or something but i would like to know more about this date and what happend. If there is anyone out there that can help me out I would really appreciate it. thanx a ton

Recently, I was asked by a friend to help place artifacts and papers from WWII that belonged to his father with a museum. My friend (Dan Turberville) is the son of 1st Sgt. Floyd B. Turberville of Uriah, AL. (deceased)1st. Sgt. Turberville served with Co. C, 81st Armored Medical Bn. The artifacts and papers filled four footlockers and contains a world of information related to the 11th Armored Division. Before we donate the items to the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans, we wish to make the information available to this site. I will not list the entire collection but it includes rosters from Camp Cooke, CA. and Ft. Polk. From the European theatre, we have GO # 129 dated 10 July 1945, a list of Bronze Star and Purple Heart recepients. There are some photographs from the concentration camp and several unit photographs taken before the unit went to Europe. Plus much more, including some risque material only a soldier would collect.
Please advise the best method for sending the copied paperwork. I have a scanner and copier.

My Grandpa was part of the 41st Cavalary. RIP.

Robert W. (Robbie) Smith

One of the last pages in northern Arizona's colorful, bawdy, frontier past was turned on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006 with the death of a local legend ? Robert W. (Robbie) Smith, age 84, of Williams.

Grandson of Tom "Tennessee" and Mary Smith, a homesteader and frontier town constable, Robbie was born in Clemensaw, near Jerome, on May 14, 1922 to Mark and Katherine (Katie) Smith. The family returned to Williams shortly after Robbie's birth.

Released from Williams High School early for Army service in World War II, Robbie joined the legion of heroes who overran Normandy Beach. He engaged the enemy in three of the fiercest battles of the European Campaign. Returning home at the end of the war, he found peaceful solitude in the harsh loneliness of a working cowboy. From atop a horse, he lived in a world that he loved and could call his own, from the Verde River to the grassy woodlands south of Williams.

Upon marrying Marian Louise (Mary Lou) MacDonald, he left the ranches he had called home and moved into Williams, taking the position of police officer, which he held for 20 years. His colorful stories of his days as a soldier and cowboy, as well as his unique and wonderful sense of humor, provided laughter and joy to the people of Williams for years. He was truly a local treasure and a living institution.

Robbie is survived by his younger sister, Mary Pitts, of Williams; his daughters, Kathie Craig and Robyn Eckel of Williams; and his sons, Paul of Dana Point, Calif. and Marion of Williams. He leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be held for Robbie at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006 at the Williams Cemetery. Please join the family for a celebration of life at the American Legion following the services.

My father, Capt. Chester Doyle Wilkins was KIA on 3/31/45. He was with the 41st Tank Battalion, 11th Armored Division. I was born on 2/12/45. He was overseas when I was born. Does anyone recall him?

Dear WW II veterans, please help me to find out info on grandfather. He has been a catain of the Wehrmacht and CO of a artillery battery. At the 14th of april in 1945 his battery was placed near Bayreuth. By recognizing Sherman tanks he ordered to stop the fire and so he has become a POW. That`s all he told me. My father, Walter F. Schmid served as a Mortar Gunner (607). Today is the 64th anniversary of the day he entered active duty (Nov 11, 1942). He recieved his Purple Heart on Dec 29, 1944 due to his feet being frozen. He died in April 1997. He spoke very little about his service and never attended any of the reunions, but I know that he was proud of his service.

My dad, Pfc. Frank Deutchman, 11AD, 22nd Tk Bn, Co. A, passed away at home on Wednesday, October 25th, 2006 from colon cancer. He was 84. He often spoke of his experiences in Acul, Houffalize, Andernach, Prum, Beyreuth, Fulda, Zella Mellis, Gmunden, Linz, to name a few. He was almost cut in half when he jumped under a truck while on his way to the tree line to pee while bed check charlie straffed him. I miss him terribly and appreciate the efforts he and his buddies made for our freedom.

Hey i was wondering if anyone new my grandfather Roy Burkey it was part of the medical outfit.... they were "captured" in one of the later battles of the buldge but released after they attended to the wounded german soldiers

I visited looking for any pics where my father may have been. He was wounded by a sniper bullet in December 1944. He died at a hospital on December 31. I am looking to communicate with any surviving veteran who may have fought with my father, Wayne L. Lee, Tank Sergeant of 42nd Battalion of the 11th armored division. I would like to learn more specifically the concentration camps his unit my have been a part of liberating.

Can anyone give me any information on the author of Vocklabruck-Austria..Resume..Independence Day,1945. My dad is very interested in finding out. He served in the 11th Armored Division as a Medic and was a liasion between CCA HQ's and 81st Medic HQ's. He is Sgt Clarence LeMaster. Any info anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

We are an English couple now living in Gallneukirchen, just outside Linz. We would like to know about the 11th armoured and its deployment here, we believe there was a pow camp here and also a dp camp. If anyone remembers the area or wants any specific photos we would love to hear from you.

I was born in 1960 and lived most of my live where the National Socialism was concocted. I attended the secondary school Hitler's brother attended, and where Himmler was teaching. I excelled in history without having ever heard about the Third Reich or it's Passau precursor. Susequently, I dedicated my life to fill in those blanks, and I continue to have survivors and liberators honored in numerous cities. In 1995, I planned and organized the first big anniversary trip back "home", with three buses from the 71st Division. They marched parallel to you, on the other bank of the Danube. In 2005 and 2006, I arranged similar trips for vets from the XX corps.
Next spring, I will accompany another group.
If you or somebody else who served in the XII or XX corps during WWII, you are most welcome to join us. We will begin in Landshut on April 18 (taken by the 99th), go to Straubing, Deggendorf and Metten before we switch to 11th territory.. on our way to Linz; most will add a few days to visit Budweis and Prague as well.

My book OUT OF PASSAU begins with the 26th Infantry entering Passau - where the 11th had just cleared the way. It ends with my plans for the 65th to return as VIPs. They forced Passau to surrender...

My father, James D. Cahill, was in Company B 55th Armored Infintry Battalion 11th Armored Division. Does anybody remember him or have any information about his time in the service?
